Gloria Coles Flint Public Library to Host 41st Annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Community Celebration

The Gloria Coles Flint Public Library will host its 41st Annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Community Celebration on Saturday, January 17, 2026, at Noon in the C.S. Mott Foundation Community Room, located at 1026 E. Kearsley Street, Flint, MI.

The celebration will feature music, encouragement, and inspiration, highlighting the vital connection between caring for ourselves and our community. This year’s theme, “Mission Possible II: Building Community, Uniting a Nation the Nonviolent Way,” underscores the enduring relevance of Dr. King’s message of nonviolence, service, and unity. 

Keynote speaker Carma Lewis, President of Flint Neighborhoods United, will share insights on local leadership, collective care, and the continued work of building community in Flint. The program will also include musical performances, youth engagement through XINOS & KUDOS of the National Sorority of Phi Delta Kappa, Gamma Delta Chapter, and a healing moment with community leader Dr. Tiffany Quinn. The program will be emceed by Sandra Etherly-Johnson, Executive Director of DEI & Community Relations, Flint & Genesee Group. 

The event will be fully accessible, with American Sign Language (ASL) interpretation and LIVE Spanish translation provided. Following the program, guests are invited to the lobby for light refreshments provided by The Local Grocer and served by the Friends of the Gloria Coles Flint Public Library. 

“Dr. King’s message continues to inspire us to build stronger communities and serve one another,” said Ann Manko, Interim Executive Director of the Gloria Coles Flint Public Library. “Our celebration is a chance for Flint residents to come together, reflect on his legacy, and commit to carrying that work forward in our neighborhoods every day.”
