The original Library building had a large concrete wall on the east side that was mostly invisible to the public. With the renovation, that wall became visible. It was begging for some local talent to dress it up and make it part of our beautiful landscape.

Flint Public Library, in partnership with the Flint Public Art Project, commissioned a mural by nationally recognized Flint artist Kevin Burdick. The mural is prominently displayed on the east side of our building and is visible from many vantage points inside.

The Friends of the Flint Public Library chose to give a gift that would honor Dr. Bobby Mukkamala, a local physician, business owner and philanthropist. While the Library was closed for renovation, he graciously provided storage space where donated books could be kept in between sales at the Farmers Market.  This allowed the Friends to continue raising money in support of Library programs and services while the building was closed. The Friends are honoring Dr. Mukkamala’s contribution to their work by sponsoring the mural in his name. Their sponsorship will be commemorated on plaques located in the Children’s Room and in the Friends of the Flint Public Library room.
