Interesting Facts:
Hayes rewrites dialogue in his head when he watches movies and Television. The most important thing to Hayes are his friends. "They keep me grounded in reality," he said.

Hayes describes his life growing up as somewhat chaotic, recalling that in the last 15 years his family has lived in various cities in Maryland, Virginia and now here in Michigan. But he has hardly been traumatized by the experience. In fact, Hayes admitts all that moving around has made him easy going and tolerant of different point of views. This is clear in Hayes' light-hearted approach to life and also in his writing.

Hayes writes mostly humor. His writing is often inspired by his love of nonsensical movies. "Think Airplane." he tells me. The physical and literal gags appeal to him, as well as the chance to exercise his own ample wit. Hayes prefers comedy because he says that there is always something happening, while drama makes you wait.

Hayes doesn’t wait around for inspiration to strike either. When I asked him why he writes, he said that it is because "my muse is very pushy." "I have to get it down when it comes." he added. But even with a pushy muse egging him on, Hayes confesses that writing is still "playing a supporting role, and not a starring role" in his life. Then he adds, with a clever smile, it is "still an understudy waiting to come out on stage." Hayes’ first passion, of course, is the theater. But none of us in the Flint Young Writer's Forum will be surprised if Hayes’ love of the theater and writing both share center stage some day.
