Interesting
Fact:
Writing plays a "primary role" in Chantel's
life.

Chantal
is presently 16 years old and will
be attending High School as a junior
this year. She describes herself
as "well-rounded" because
she likes trying new things and
meeting new people. Chantal also
says she is a good listener, and
sometimes calls herself "goofy."
God is the most important thing to Chantal, and her family
is the next most important thing. She lives with her mother,
although she has two brothers and one sister. Joseph, her
oldest brother, has graduated from Central Michigan University,
Jeffrey attends Jackson State University, and Chavon also
attends Central Michigan University.
Although Chantal has some bad childhood memories, she admits
it was a learning experience. Now she is "trying to
mature" and deal with those challenges in a more positive
way.
As a writer, Chantal describes herself as a poet, and she
likes to view things in a different way. She writes for expression,
and to "let everything go." This enjoyable activity
plays a "primary role" in her life, and several
of her extracurricular activities are based on writing, such
as poetry slams and the Flint Young Writers Forum.
She has learned that "things change even if you dont
realize it" and seeks to understand those changes through
her writing.
Some of the major writing influences in Chantals life
include Maya Angelou and F. Scott Fitzgerald. When asked
about her own writing, Chantal explained that she does not
like to judge her own writing. At times, however, she will
be quite enthusiastic about a particular piece of writing.
When she is not busy expressing herself through creative
writing Chantal spends her time enjoying lots of other activities
including, reading, running, playing tennis, talking, and
spending time with her family. She belongs to different organizations
for tennis, track, poetry, student senate, student council,
student coalition, ISP, young life, and of course, the Flint
Young Writers Forum.
