Celebration was held March 18,
2004
Bernice Trimble Steadman shared the adventures of women who
struggled to fly with the men and the obstacles and challenges
that trailblazing women overcame.
Ms. Steadman is a woman with an amazing flying
history! She was one of 13 women who passed NASA’s rigorous physical for
the Mercury astronaut candidates. She also was President of the
Ninety-Nines (International Organization of Women Pilots); winner
of several transcontinental and international women’s air
races, the Chairperson of the Ann
Arbor Airport Commission, and flight instructor, owner and operator
of a successful flying taxi service.
The winners of the Eighth Annual 8th Grade Girls Countywide Essay
Contest 2004 were announced and awarded their prizes at this
event.
Celebrate the great strides of pace-setting, untethered
women everywhere and the young award winners who researched
and wrote
about them!
