James McBride met with over 200 area teens on April 28, 2004.

McBride is an award-winning writer, composer and saxophonist, James McBride’s memoir, The Color of Water, rested on the New York Times Bestseller List for two years. It has been translated into more than a dozen languages, and has become an American classic, suitable for reading by high school, college students and adults of all ages. It is the autobiographical account of McBride's mother, a white Jewish woman from Poland who raised her 12 children in New York City and sent each to college.
