1990 Student Achievement Awards
Tamika Wingfield
ATHLETIC ACHIEVEMENT: Tamika participated 4 years in Varsity Tennis,
serving as captain for the 1988 and 1989 season. She was the winner
of Most Sportsmanship Award, and Most Valuable Award. She was also
number 3 in singles during her freshman year and number 1 singles in
the 10-12 grade. She finished 2nd in city 1989 season. She played Varsity
Softball as a junior and J.V. Softball in the 10 th grade.
SCHOLASTIC ACHIEVEMENT: Tamika has a 3.878 grade point average. Her
ACT composite score is 23. She has received two academic letters-1988-1989,
was awarded the Optimist Club Youth Service Award in 1989, and received
a resolution from the state for participation in the Youth Leadership
Institute in 1989.
EXTRA CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES: She has been a member of the National
Honor Society since the end of her 10th grade. Tamika has been a member
of the Gifted Students Enrichment Club all 4 years of high school.
She has been a member of the student council and sophomore class vice-president.
She has been a member of Top Teens of America for 4 years, serving
as an officer in 1987 and 1988. Tamika is a member of Youth Leadership
Flint 2000, and of Zeta Archonettes for 3 years, serving as chaplain
in 1989 and treasurer in 1990. She is a 1989 graduate of Youth Leadership
Institute. In her church, she has been a member of the usher board
since the age of nine. She works in the church nursery. In all respects,
Tamika is an outstanding young woman.
Corwin
Matthews
ATHLETIC ACHIEVEMENT: Corwin was on the Varsity Football team for
3 years starting as offensive tackle for 2 years. He was voted First-Team
All-City and Second Team All-Valley. Corwin was awarded the Optimist
Club Outstanding Student Athlete Award. He won a varsity letter in
track and won 3rd place ribbons in weight lifting and academics.
SCHOLASTIC ACHIEVEMENT: Corwin has a 3.94 grade point average. He
ranks 2nd in his class. He has won an academic letter and a gold bar
for outstanding academic achievement. He has a 22 composite score on
the ACT test.
EXTRA CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES: Corwin has been a member of the National
Honor Society for 3 years and currently holds the office of treasurer.
He is an officer in the student council. He serves as president of
S.A.D.D. and also works on the yearbook. Academically Corwin ranks
as one of Northern's top students and is capable of meeting the most
difficult of academic challenges. He is a mature, self motivated young
person who exhibits fine moral character at all times.
