Robin
and Willie Fields
1989 Community
Service Award
This year our Community Services Award goes to another husband and
wife team ... Robin and Willie (Billy) Fields.
For over twenty years, Robin and Billy have been involved with youth.
It all began when their sons, Craig and Mark, entered elementary school
and continued up to, and beyond Craig and Mark's college education.
You could always find Robin and Billy's van, truck or car filled to
capacity with kids and/or parents. Their travels carried them in and
out of the state of Michigan and on occasion, transportation was provided
for cheerleaders to a basketball or football game.
It was not uncommon for the Fields to transport kids to and from basketball
or football camps. Many neighborhood youngsters were also transported
along with the athletes to sports events.
Weather was never an obstacle for Robin and Billy were at sports events,
winter, fall, spring or summer.
Transportation was not the only good deeds Robin and Billy provided
for youngsters. They were instrumental in seeing that the athletes
were fed before games along with parents that volunteered to help serve
and prepare food.
They sponsored banquets for athletes and absorbed the expense for
trophies and certificates for everyone, including the coaches.
Their community involvement also included participating in Booster
Clubs and Community Advisory Councils. They have received many awards
... from elementary level to college level ... for their generosity
to youngsters. One award Robin and Billy are especially proud of is
the "Brave of the Year Award." They received this award from
Whittier Junior High School which was the first award given to them
for Athletic and Scholastic Achievement Recipients.
