Purpose - Students'
Thoughts
Here we have asked the students a few questions about how
they feel about the project - such as: Why have you stayed with
this project; what have you learned; have there been any memorable
experiences; what do you like the most about the program; and
what one activity do you enjoy the most while you are here? Before
they answered these questions they described their purpose in
choosing the topic for their Flint Profiles web site.
Crystal
Bell: Tech Ed
Purpose: "I hope this project will
inform people about the Tech Ed Program offered by the Flint
Public Schools to the students. It teaches career skills for
people interested in technology."
Thoughts:"I have stayed with this project because
I love learning, and this program is fun to be in. Also, the
staff and kids are helpful to be around. I have learned to operate
computers - at first I was very short minded about computers,
now I know much more about them, and my typing skills are getting
better. The memorable experiences for me are the way that we
take pictures. And the cookie monster game where Erika showed
us how the data get to and from a computer, by us being the computers.
I like the people most about this program because they don't
have negative comments for you, and we all try to stay positive
towards each other. Also, everyone is willing to help each other.
What I like to do the most while I am here is chatting on the
computer during my spare time or working on and looking at my
web page."
Precious
Boone: Rebuilding Flint
Purpose: "As I walked in my neighborhood,
I realized that there were a lot of new buildings and restoring
of old building sites going on. This made me feel positive and
encouraged."
Thoughts: "I have stayed with this program because
I enjoy doing this and I'm still learning things. I have learned
about the different ways to do things with the different tools
and programs. The most memorable experiences have been going
out talking to people that I don't know about my project. I like
learning things that will be useful for me in the future. The
one activity that I like the most is Photoshop. I like being
able to be really creative."
Alana
Bowers: Flint Smiles
Purpose: "I have developed
a project to explore to explore what Flint citizens find to smile
about. I went out with my trusty digital camera and tape recorder
and asked the simple question: 'What makes you smile in Flint,
Michigan? ' "
Thoughts: "I have stayed with this project because
the topic was very interesting, and I wanted to hear the feedback
of the people. I have learned that people are all different,
but some things bind them together (like this city). The most
memorable moments were finding out so much information and seeing
it come to life. I liked learning about computers, and how not
to be afraid of crashing it. I liked the most - learning new
things and meeting new people."

who know the same things I do. I have learned how to change pictures,

I can be with people that notice me and what I do. I liked the
cookie monster activity the most, that was fun - I love cartoon
characters."

Scouts
Purpose: "Some of best experiences
of my youth have been with Troop #47 of the Flint Boy Scouts.
I thought I would share them with others."
Thoughts: "I have stayed with this program because
of Boy Scouts of America. I have learned that there are more things
to computers than on paper. The memorable experiences have been
with the digital camera. I like the fact that I met a new boy
and learned the ropes. When I am here I like to work in groups
the most."

Purpose: "This award is given
biannually to honor local Flint women who, through personal commitment,
have attained unique levels of achievement in professional and/or
personal capacities. Way to go!"

I think it has enhanced my knowledge of the Internet and Apple
computers. Plus, I get paid for it. I have learned to use Adobe
Photoshop in ways that I never knew existed as well as Pagemill.
The memorable experience I had is meeting and working with the
people that I met while working here. I will probably never forget
them. The thing I like most is the learning experience. I think
this will benefit me greatly in the near future. I like surfing

I liked learning about the different programs and because of
the

and the Internet."
