About the Library

Your Flint Public Library Card

Your Flint Public Library Card is an "all-in-one" card that can be used to check out books and materials from the Library.

What do we mean by "all-in-one"? Your Library card is your passport to a world of information that includes the best educational and recreational materials and limitless opportunities on the World Wide Web.

With your Library Card, you can:

  • Check out books and materials from the Library
  • Log in to use the Library computers
  • Log in to Online Reference Tools from home

Your Library Card is also a debit card. You can add value to the card to:

  • Print from Library computers
  • Make photocopies

Treat your Library card as you would a credit card. If it is lost or stolen, report it as soon as possible. You are responsible for any library materials that are checked out on your card. There is a $2.00 fee to replace a lost card.

There is no need to get another card for the above activities. When you use the same Library card over and over again, the library saves money. Each time you visit the library, please bring your Library Card. The library staff stands ready to assist you.

We value your privacy. Each Flint Public Library cardholder has the right to privacy in the use of his or her library card. No one is permitted to use or receive information about another person's library card without written consent from the cardholder. The Michigan Library Privacy Act prohibits library staff from disclosing information about a library record "without written consent of the person liable for payment for or return of the materials in the library record."

Any resident of the City of Flint or the State of Michigan may apply for a Flint Public Library card. A current Driver's License or State of Michigan Identification card must be shown. People under the age of 18, who do not have their own Michigan Driver's License or Identification Card must have a parent or legal guardian present to get a card at the time that they apply.

Patrons may use only their own cards to check out materials, unless a written consent form is on file allowing them to check out materials for another. Patrons may use only their own cards to sign onto a public computer.
